Ayoneceli Rodriguez Segura
Ayo composes visual representations and narratives that reflect their experience growing up as a queer undocumented individual. They explore themes of identity, migration, memory and grief. Their work is inspired by the curanderismo culture they grew up with, Mesoamerican culture, nature and their experience being queer and undocumented.
Through the use of traditional art mediums, recycled materials, writing and installations, Ayo aims to archive, and illustrate their memories and experiences including those of their community, friends and family. They invite you to envision a liberated future from all systems of oppression for all marginalized communities, to consider the complexity and beauty of migration, and reimagine an ancestral lineage that reflects LGBTQ+ identities.

Ayoneceli Rodriguez Segura is a queer interdisciplinary artist born in Mexico City based in Phoenix, Arizona with Indigenous roots in Guerrero. Their work explores themes of migration, identity, memory and grief. Through the use of traditional art mediums, recycled materials, writing and installations, Ayo aims to archive and illustrate their queer migrant experience.
They have exhibited work locally in Phoenix with the Black Girl Brown Girl collective, Trans Queer Pueblo, and thems Phoenix, as well as in Brooklyn, New York and El Paso, Texas with Asterix Gallery.
Ayo is based in South Phoenix and they are passionate about making art more accessible to their community by hosting art markets with their art collective Mas allá del Sol, and by facilitating art workshops around the Phoenix Metro area.
